West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee when asked about who the successor of her party will be, has emphasized that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) operates as a disciplined, collective entity where no individual can dictate terms or dominate others. Addressing ongoing speculation about her successor, Banerjee stated that the decision would be made collectively by the party, dismissing rumors of her unilateral dominance. "I am not the party, we are the party. It is a collective family, and decisions will be made collectively," she said.
The remarks come amidst internal tensions between the TMC’s veteran leaders and the younger faction, often seen as aligned with Abhishek Banerjee, the party’s national general secretary and Mamata Banerjee's nephew. While Abhishek is highly popular among Bengal’s youth, his increasing influence has drawn criticism from senior leaders, who accuse him of overstepping his bounds.
Banerjee maintained a balanced tone, acknowledging the importance of both the old guard and new-generation leaders. “Everyone is important. Today’s newcomer will be tomorrow’s veteran,” she said, signaling the need for harmony within the party ranks. The TMC has yet to announce a successor, but Banerjee’s comments highlight the need for unity and collective decision-making as the party navigates generational shifts.
